I began working with couples early in my career and was hooked from the start. There is something that happens in the room when two people start to really understand each other, not just the surface version of each other, but the deeper story underneath, that I find genuinely moving and meaningful.
Most of the couples I work with come to me when things have already gotten hard. They are stuck in a pattern they cannot name, carrying hurts that have been building for years. I have sat with enough of those couples to know the earlier you do this work, the easier it is. Not because early relationships are without complexity, but because patterns are more flexible when they are new, and understanding each other deeply from the beginning changes everything about what you build together.
I have spent many summers up in Vermont, going to and working at summer camp. The Vermont state flower, the Red Clover, has always reminded me of these times. Feeling joyful, authentic, and forming genuine connections. I wanted to bring that energy to my practice with couples. That’s how Red Clover Counseling got its name!
